Apical Surgery: Progress from Resection to Precision Regeneration

Abstract: Apical surgery serves as the primary salvage treatment for persistent periapical lesions following failed root canal therapy (RCT). Over the past decade, this field has undergone a paradigm shift from "blind resection" to "precision intervention" driven by the integration of digital imaging, minimally invasive techniques, bioactive materials, and regenerative strategies. This systematic review summarizes the latest advances in apical surgery, focusing on digital navigation systems, minimally invasive resection technologies, novel retrograde filling materials, and periapical tissue regeneration approaches. We also analyze current clinical challenges and future development directions to provide evidence-based references for endodontic practice. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library using keywords including "apical surgery", "endodontic microsurgery", "digital navigation in endodontics", and "periapical regeneration". Advances in Biased Opioid Agonists for Analgesia: Side Effects Minimisation and Addiction Prevention

Abstract: Opioids, as frontline analgesics, are associated with substantial adverse effects. For example, μ-opioid receptor agonists commonly cause respiratory depression and carry high addictive potential, while κ-opioid receptor agonists can produce depression-like reactions and aversion. The introduction of biased agonism has offered a strategy to dissociate opioid-induced adverse effects from analgesic efficacy. In recent years, biased agonists developed for different opioid receptor types have shown promise in reducing side effects, lowering addictive liability, and achieving analgesia with improved therapeutic windows, suggesting the possibility of a safer next generation of analgesics. Effects of Progressive Resistance Training on Muscle Mass, Muscle Strength, and Physical Function in Elderly Patients with Sarcopenia

Abstract: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluates the effects of progressive resistance training (PRT) on muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical function in elderly patients with sarcopenia. Eleven randomized controlled trials involving 316 participants were included. The results indicate that PRT significantly improves grip strength (SMD = 3.22, 95% CI: 2.62–3.82, P < 0.00001), gait speed (SMD = 0.51, 95% CI: 0.27–0.75, P < 0.00001), and skeletal muscle index (SMD = 0.39, 95% CI: 0.07–0.72, P = 0.02). However, PRT did not show significant effects on chair stand time or the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) score. The findings suggest that PRT is a feasible and effective intervention for improving certain aspects of sarcopenia in the elderly, though its impact on comprehensive physical function requires further investigation. Policy Tool Innovation and Collaborative Mechanism for the Integrated Development of "Sports + Tourism" in Qingyuan from the Perspective of the Digital Economy

Abstract: The digital economy has become a core driving force in reshaping industrial forms and regional competitiveness. The deep integration of "sports + tourism," as a vital path to meeting the people's needs for a better life, is facing a critical moment of digital transformation. However, traditional industrial policy tools and governance mechanisms exhibit significant "failure" and "mismatch" when addressing the new characteristics brought by the digital economy, such as rapid iteration, cross-border integration, and data-driven approaches. This paper, focusing on Qingyuan City—an ecological barrier and leisure tourism destination in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area—addresses the practical policy challenges faced by its integrated "sports + tourism" development. Utilizing policy tool theory and collaborative governance theory, this paper first analyzes the empowering logic of the digital economy on "sports + tourism" integration. It then diagnoses the core dilemmas in Qingyuan, including the imbalanced supply of policy tools, the "fragmentation" of departmental collaboration, and the "time-lag" in policy execution. Building on this, the paper systematically constructs an innovative policy toolbox adapted to the digital economy from four dimensions: environmental, supply-side, demand-side, and governance. Furthermore, it designs a "five-in-one" policy collaborative governance mechanism covering target, organizational, resource, process, and information collaboration. With the integration of digital technology, biomaterials science, and artificial intelligence (AI), the paradigm of RCT has shifted from "infection elimination" to "functional reconstruction" and "tissue regeneration". Innovation of "Government-Industry-University-Research" Collaborative Training Mode for Local Application-oriented Talents from the Perspective of New Quality Productive Forces

Abstract: The formation and development of new quality productive forces depend not only on technological breakthroughs but also on high-quality application-oriented talents who master new knowledge, new technologies, and new processes. As the intersection of the Northern Guangdong Ecological Development Area and the undertaking ground for industrial transfer from the Pearl River Delta, Qingyuan City faces dual challenges in the process of promoting the digital, intelligent, and green transformation and upgrading of its manufacturing industry: a structural shortage of application-oriented talent supply and the poor operation of the "Government-Industry-University-Research" collaborative mechanism. Based on the connotation and characteristics of new quality productive forces, this paper analyzes the new requirements for the quality of application-oriented talents. It examines the realistic dilemmas in the current local "Government-Industry-University-Research" collaborative training mode, such as "divergent government guidance, involution of enterprise participation, lagging adaptability of universities, and inefficient conversion rate of scientific research." Based on the "Quadruple Helix" innovation theory and collaborative governance theory, this paper constructs a new "Government-Industry-University-Research" collaborative mode centered on the deep integration of the "industrial chain, innovation chain, education chain, and talent chain." Combined with the construction of the "Provincial Vocational Education City" in Qingyuan and the practice of the "Hundreds, Thousands, and Ten Thousands Project," specific innovation paths are proposed, such as co-constructing modern industrial colleges, creating regional industry-education consortia, and building a full-life-cycle talent service ecosystem. A Study on Chromosomal Aberrations in Peripheral Blood Immune Cells of Medical Radiation Diagnostics Practitioners Exposed to Occupational Radiation

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the health effects of radiation exposure among medical radiation diagnostics practitioners. Methods: A total of 1125 medical radiation diagnostics workers who underwent occupational health examinations between 2023 and 2024 were selected as the study subjects. They were categorized into groups based on gender, age, and length of service. Differences in white blood cell count, platelet count, and chromosomal aberration rates among the groups were analyzed. Logistic regression was used to identify factors influencing the rate of chromosomal aberrations. Results: Among the 1125 workers, 684 (60.8%) were male and 441 (39.2%) were female. The non-aberration group comprised 1060 individuals (94.2%), with a mean radiation exposure duration of 6.85 ± 8.137 years and a mean age of (33.17 ± 10.420) years. The chromosomal aberration group included 65 individuals (5.8%). Radiation exposure time and age were identified as influencing factors for chromosomal aberrations in radiation workers (P < 0.05). For each additional year of radiation exposure, the risk of chromosomal aberrations increased by 3.9% (OR = 1.039, 95% C.I. 1.013-1.067). Conclusion: Long-term, low-dose ionizing radiation exposure leads to an increased incidence of chromosomal aberrations. Abstract: Periodontal surgery is the core treatment for moderate to severe periodontitis, aiming to control infection, eliminate periodontal pockets, and restore periodontal tissue function. Over the past decade, driven by the integration of digital medicine, tissue engineering, and minimally invasive technology, periodontal surgery has achieved a paradigm shift from "disease control" to "functional regeneration". This systematic review summarizes the latest progress in periodontal surgery, focusing on digital diagnosis and navigation, minimally invasive debridement techniques, periodontal regenerative therapy, and aesthetic periodontal surgery. We also analyze current clinical challenges and future development directions to provide evidence-based support for periodontal clinical practice.
