Evaluating China’s Health System Performance Towards Universal Health Coverage

Abstract: Achieving universal health coverage (UHC) is one of the core goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to ensure that all individuals have access to quality health care without facing financial hardship. As the largest developing country, China has made remarkable progress in achieving UHC through healthcare financing and government leadership. However, urban and rural areas in China still face challenges in terms of access to health care, quality, and resource allocation. This structured literature review of articles published between 2010 and 2025 was conducted through PubMed and Google Scholar, and a total of 31 studies related to UHC and health systems in China were included as evidence for analysis. Through this literature review, we found that China has achieved more than 95% population coverage in terms of UHC, significantly improving access to basic health services. However, China's financial protection indicators, such as Catastrophic Health Expenditure (CHE), are still higher than those of comparable countries. There are significant differences in the distribution of health human resources, the quality of medical services, and the quality of facilities between urban and rural medical institutions in China. A Review of the Research on DNA Methylation Mediated Epigenetic Remodeling of HRD and Immune Microenvironment in Acquired Resistance to PARP Inhibitors in Ovarian Cancer

Abstract: Adenosine diphosphate ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitors have become an important targeted therapy for ovarian cancer patients carrying homologous recombination repair defects (HRD), but acquired resistance severely limits the long-term benefits of PARP inhibitors. Recent studies have shown that epigenetic remodeling mediated by DNA methylation plays an important role in the resistance process of PARP inhibitors. Therefore, in addition to inducing HRD phenotype reversal by silencing homologous recombination repair related genes, it can also synergistically mediate drug resistance by regulating the tumor immune microenvironment. This article reviews the epigenetic reversal of HRD and its impact on the immune microenvironment in ovarian cancer PARPi acquired resistance through DNA methylation. This article further introduces the application prospects, existing problems, and future prospects of demethylation drugs combined with PARP inhibitors or immunotherapy for DNA methylation, providing a new theoretical basis and possible approaches for solving clinical drug resistance. The Application Value of Ultrasound Medicine in Surgical Teaching Under the Concept of Precision Surgery

Abstract: In the context of the rapid development of precision medicine, precision surgery has gradually become the core development direction of modern surgery, which emphasizes accurate diagnosis, precise localization, minimally invasive operation, real-time monitoring and individualized treatment. With the unique advantages of real-time imaging, non-invasiveness, repeatability, bedside availability and dynamic visualization, ultrasound is highly consistent with the educational needs and practical scenarios of precision surgery. However, traditional surgical teaching is still restricted by static anatomical teaching, insufficient clinical practice opportunities, single teaching mode and lack of interdisciplinary integration, which makes it difficult to systematically cultivate students’ precision thinking, spatial cognitive ability and standardized surgical operation ability. Based on the core connotation and development trend of precision surgery, this paper analyzes the realistic dilemmas and deep-seated problems existing in traditional surgical teaching, and systematically expounds the specific application paths and multi-dimensional application values of ultrasound medicine in surgical teaching from four aspects: visualized anatomical teaching, standardized skill training, interdisciplinary knowledge integration and diversified teaching evaluation. This study confirms that the deep integration of ultrasound medicine into the whole process of surgical teaching can effectively break through the limitations of traditional teaching, significantly improve the intuitiveness, scientificity and effectiveness of surgical teaching, enhance students’ three-dimensional spatial cognition and clinical practical ability, cultivate rigorous precision thinking and interdisciplinary comprehensive competence, and provide a practical and feasible path for medical colleges and universities to cultivate high-quality surgical talents adapting to the development requirements of modern … Read More

Optimizing Music Therapy for Depression Treatment: Investigating the Relationship Between Music Preferences and Mental Health

Abstract: Music therapy is a promising adjunct to depression care, yet effects likely vary with everyday listening. In a cross-sectional online survey (N = 736), we examined associations between preferred genres, self-reported typical tempo (beats per minute; BPM), and engagement mode (composing/playing/exploring vs. purely receptive) with single-item anxiety and depression (0–10). After prespecified cleaning (e.g., implausible BPM < 30 or > 300 excluded) and listwise analysis, we estimated OLS models with HC3 standard errors; genre differences used one-way ANOVA (inference restricted to adequately sized groups), reporting ω² and 95% CIs. Typical BPM showed small, positive linear associations with both anxiety and depression; the quadratic term was null and model R² values were modest. Genre effects were small at the omnibus level, and only a limited subset of pairwise contrasts remained significant after correction (e.g., Metal vs. Classical/R&B; Video-game music vs. Classical for anxiety). Active engagement showed selective, small associations (composition with lower depression) that warrant experimental tests. Findings, derived from a non-clinical, correlational dataset, argue for individualised use of music in practice and for prospective trials that manipulate engagement type and tempo within genres. Trend Analysis of the Impact of Maternal Health Management on Child Health

Abstract: To evaluate the impact of China's 2009 maternal health management program on service utilization and child health, and examine their association. Using 1998-2020 national time-series data, interrupted time series regression analyzed changes in four maternal service indicators and four child mortality indicators post-implementation. Pearson correlation assessed service-mortality associations. All maternal services showed significant immediate increases post-2009 (systematic management: B=5.53, p<0.01) and accelerated long-term trends (p<0.05). Child mortality continued pre-existing declines; perinatal mortality decreased immediately (B=-0.665, p<0.05). All service indicators correlated strongly and negatively with all mortality indicators (|r|>0.74, p<0.01).The 2009 program sustainably improved maternal service utilization and reinforced declining child mortality trends. Strong negative correlations confirm comprehensive maternal healthcare's critical role in improving child survival. Read More

Antioxidant Activity of Extracts from Simao Pine (Pinus kesiya var. langbianensis) Needles

Abstract: Simao pine is a dominant native tree species in Puer, Yunnan, China, with abundant underutilized pine needle resources. This study optimized the ultrasonic-assisted extraction of total flavonoids from Simao pine needles, and evaluated the in vitro antioxidant activity of the extracts. Single-factor experiments and orthogonal test showed that the optimal extraction conditions were solid-liquid ratio 1:20, extraction temperature 80℃, and extraction time 40 min, with a maximum total flavonoid yield of 6.86%. The total phenolic content of the extract was 10.97 μg per mg of dry extract. Antioxidant assays confirmed that the extract had a DPPH radical scavenging rate over 80% at 0.6–0.8 mg/mL, and a maximum hydroxyl radical (•OH) scavenging rate of 72.29% at 0.8 mg/mL. The reducing power of the extract was significantly higher than that of vitamin C (Vc) and vitamin E (Ve) at 0.6–1.0 mg/mL. This study provides a theoretical basis for the development of Simao pine needles as a natural antioxidant resource. Read More
